If there's one thing we know about Flickr users, it's that their not shy about sharing their opinions. Shortly after Microsoft made an offer to buy Flickr's parent company Yahoo!, images mocking the deal started showing up all over the site. And now that Flickr has added the ability for uses to upload short videos, a large group of Flickr image-only purists has formed a "NO VIDEO ON FLICKR!!!" group.
Should have seen this coming.
Oh yeah, I was waiting for this. Not a huge fan of the idea, myself, but I really doubt they are going to remove it now.
I agree with you. I'm personally not in favor of it but not so much that I'd protest it. It isn't going anywhere.
oh when oh when will I find out how to quote and italicize?
"Basically, their argument is that there are plenty of places for people to upload and share videos. What's made Flickr special is its focus on images. Of course, anyone can filter out videos from their search results just by clicking on the advanced search options. It would be nice if the feature were more prominently placed, but why ask Flickr to modify its search bar when you could just try to incite a riot?"
emphasis on the "Of course, anyone can filter out videos from their search results just by clicking on the advanced search options."

Soon - when your out of the greenhouse.
yeah, what he said
it doesn't make sense that being in the greenhouse keeps you from using basic formatting in your quotes. What possible justification could there be for stopping people from using the "quote" option?
because drive by quoters aren't cool. if someone wants to pull something that you said completely out of context, they should have to at least hang around for a while:)

My guess is that it was probably easier to completely restrict all HTML tags for greenhousers. Newsvine probably does this to reduce security and abuse problems.
I was wondering why I couldn't quote or italicize.
Besides, what's wrong with 90 second(?) snippets of video on flickr? As long as they don't try to make it into the next YouTube or Vimeo, it doesn't seem to be all that bad.
I meant to write bold not italicize btw. I usually surf the internet inebriated, which I had assumed was why I could never seem to find a formatting link.
speaking of surfing the internet inebriated, I meant to reply this upthread. I guess this is why I'm not allowed to quote.
You're in Easy Mode. If you prefer, you can use XHTML Mode instead. |
